Why is it called Third Space?
The idea of a “third space” comes from cultural theory — a space that isn’t home (first) or work/school (second), but something else entirely. Somewhere in-between. Open-ended. Liberating. That’s what we wanted to build: a space that isn’t institutional and isn’t chaotic social media either. Not a classroom. Not a content feed.
Something slower. Stranger. Intimate. A space where poems don’t have to prove anything.
It’s where you go to make things without explaining them first. To write in community without competing. To bring your whole self — confused, brilliant, burnt out, all of it — and still be met with care.
That’s the third space. And you’re already in it.
What’s the difference between the Member, Friend, and Patron tiers?
- Member ($99/year): Our classic option. You get access to free year-round submissions, 22% off workshops + editorial feedback, and a discount on merch.
- Friend ($169/year): All of the above, plus a free workshop, a free editorial feedback letter (up to 10 pages of poetry), and a curated list of 10–20 lit mag submission suggestions.
- Patron ($249/year): You get everything from the first two tiers, your name in our Patrons page featured on the website, and our eternal gratitude for helping sustain this magazine.
All members get access to this Third Space no matter their tier.
Do I get to submit poems to ONLY POEMS for free?
Yes! Members, Friends, and Patrons can submit via our members-only portal year-round—for free—directly to our editors. Please note that this is only for our regular (and most popular category): Poet of the Week. This is not for contests submissions.
Is this just a donation or do I actually get stuff?
You actually get stuff. We’re deeply allergic to fluff. This isn’t just “support us” energy (though we appreciate it!)—each tier is packed with real, useful benefits for working poets. Feedback, workshops, submission resources, and community.
Can I upgrade later if I start with the Member tier?
Yep. You can upgrade anytime and we’ll prorate the amount, so you’re not paying double. You can do this automatically via your Membership portal or you can also email us and we’ll sort it out for you.
What’s the workshop included in the Friend tier? Can I choose?
You’ll receive a credit that you can use for any upcoming workshop (value up to $90). No expiration date. We’ll remind you before new ones launch so you get first dibs.
What kind of editorial feedback do I get?
Friends get one full letter of editorial feedback (on up to 10 pages of poetry). Thoughtful, line-specific, and totally honest. If you’re a Member, you still get 22% off if you ever want to purchase feedback separately. You can fill out this form to request feedback.
What’s in the lit mag submission suggestions list?
It’s a curated list of 10–20 journals based on your aesthetic, themes, and publishing goals—with reasons for each pick. It’s designed to help you submit smarter, not harder.
How do I post my work in the Blog?
All members can share their work here and it won't be visible to the world (unless you want it to be!). Just fill out this form and send us what you'd like to feature here, and we'll add it to the Blog. Other community members and editors will be able to comment on your work with encouragements and love! We don't expect anyone to give detailed feedback in the comments, but you're welcome to connect with members that you align with offline and arrange for a mutually beneficial feedback exchange!
Is this for new poets or more experienced ones?
Both. Whether you’ve never submitted before or have ten Pushcart noms (or wins!), there’s value here—especially in the feedback and community. We'll meet you where you are!
Can I buy this for someone else as a gift?
Yes! Just shoot us an email here and we’ll help you set up a gifted membership (with a digital card if you want to make it ✨fancy✨).
I have another question that’s not listed here.
Easy: just email us or reach out here. We’re super helpful. Promise.
